IGCSE or O Level? Find Your Cambridge Syllabus Code Before You Buy a Book

Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge O Level are separate qualifications, and the same school subject can have two different syllabuses with two different four-digit codes. Check yours before buying revision material.

Why the code matters

Mathematics is the clearest example. IGCSE Mathematics is syllabus 0580. O Level Mathematics is syllabus 4024. They are different syllabuses with different papers, so questions that suit one may not suit the other. Revising from the wrong one wastes time.

How to find your code

  1. Look at your school’s exam entry confirmation or your exam registration.
  2. Look at the front of your past papers. The syllabus code is printed at the top, for example 0625 or 4024.
  3. Ask your teacher. Schools in Pakistan often enter students for O Level in some subjects and IGCSE in others.
