Computer Science 0478 and 2210: Paper 1 vs Paper 2 and How to Revise Each

Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478 and O Level Computer Science 2210 are examined by two papers that test different skills. Revise for them differently.

Paper 1: Computer Systems

Paper 1 is about how computers work: data representation, hardware, software, networks and the other theory topics in the syllabus. The answers are mostly facts and short explanations, so the way to score is to learn the exact terms and practise stating them clearly. Past paper questions show you how Cambridge words them.

ExamYard’s Paper 1 book runs to one volume of 537 pages and 6 chapters, with 641 real Cambridge questions from 2023 to 2026 drawn from 25 papers.

Paper 2: Algorithms, Programming and Logic

Paper 2 is about solving problems: algorithm design, programming, and logic. It is a skill rather than a set of facts, so you only improve by writing and tracing solutions yourself. Do not read the mark scheme before you have tried the question. Trace the code line by line with a trace table, and write your own answers in full.

ExamYard’s Paper 2 book is one volume of 528 pages and 4 chapters, with 301 questions from 25 Cambridge papers, 2023 to 2026, each printed whole as Cambridge set it, plus a few clearly marked ExamYard practice questions where the papers set none.

A simple split
